Create An Abundant Mindset Around Money

Updated: Jul 10, 2024

Pain can be a real struggle, affecting us deeply on mental, emotional, and physical levels. It's a powerful signal from our body, a way of saying something needs attention. The thing is, sometimes in that pain, we create an internal environment that pushes money away from us.

Thoughts of lack can get stuck in our minds, replaying like a broken record. These patterns of limited thinking reflect in all areas of our lives, including the flow of money

Scarcity Mindset vs. Abundance Mindset: Breathe Your Way to Financial Freedom

Deep down, instead of feeling whole and worthy, we might feel a sense of lack – not good enough, not smart enough, not doing enough. These thoughts can get stuck on repeat, like a broken record. "I should have done this," "I can't possibly achieve that," "Life is just hard." These patterns limit us, and along with them, the flow of money into our lives.

But there's a beautiful truth: money is abundant. It can appear when we truly believe in ourselves, when we feel worthy of receiving good things. It flows more easily when we have the capacity to receive – not just money, but all the good life has to offer.

A woman stands happily in her living room thinking to herself: "I cherish the richness of my life.
Money flows more easily when we have the capacity to receive – not just money, but all the good life has to offer

The Breath of Life: An Abundant Resource

Our breath is the most abundant resource on Earth, even more valuable than money – and it's free! There's a saying: "As within, so without." The way we approach one area of life often reflects how we approach others. If we're closed off to receiving this incredible gift, how can we open ourselves to receiving money?

What is a Proper Breath? Focus on the Exhale

When most people think about breathing, we think about the lungs inflating as we inhale and deflating as we exhale. But what causes them to inflate and deflate? How do we actually breathe?

Here's a little anatomy breakdown: We have two muscle groups that contribute to our ability to breathe. The main one is the diaphragm, a flat plate of muscle that sits above our intestines and below our lungs. When we inhale, the diaphragm pushes down on our digestive tract, inflating our belly. When we exhale, the diaphragm pushes up against our lungs, as if wringing them out, ridding our body of waste and toxins. This is called a diaphragmatic breath. The only visible sign of breathing, or movement, should be from our belly inflating and deflating.

The secondary muscles are the backup, in case of emergency, last resort “we need extra oxygen now!” type of muscles – the chest. It is very important to understand that our chest muscles are not designed to be the primary driver of oxygen. When we breathe from our chests, we intake about 20% of what we are capable of, and only a fraction of waste is being expelled from our body.

Connecting Our Inner World to Our Outer World

Seventy percent of your oxygen receptors are located at the very bottom of your lungs, right above the diaphragm. The only way to get oxygen down to the alveoli is by fully engaging in conscious diaphragmatic breath. We need the diaphragm to squeeze against them as we fully exhale.

As above, so below. As within, so without.

Every breath we take nourishes our cells with loving oxygen. Fully exhaling helps them remain nice and squeaky clean, removing toxins and waste. With every breath, we say to ourselves, "I love you." When we breathe from the chest, we are literally starving our bodies of oxygen. Our cells are deprived of the most needed resource, and with every breath we take, are forced to operate out of scarcity. Every breath reinforces – not just the belief, but the reality that we do not have enough.

The Breath of Life is Free

If we're closed off to receiving this incredible gift, how can we open ourselves to receiving money? Just like with a limited air supply, a limited belief in receiving can restrict our well-being and ability to attract abundance.

Making the Connection

Like attracts like. Limited supply of air = limited money. So, take a deep, sincere breath in. Let your body feel nourished and whole. This simple act can be a powerful step towards healing your relationship with money. Believe in yourself, open your heart to receiving, and watch your life blossom.

The branches of our lungs: the left side is bare, while the right side is blossoming with flowers. The affirmation reads: 'I now expand my capacity to receive all the good life has to offer.'
Just like with a limited air supply, a limited belief in receiving can restrict our well-being and ability to attract abundance.

Breathing Exercises for Abundance:

  •  Box Breathing: This simple technique calms the mind and promotes relaxation. Sit comfortably, inhale for a count of four, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four. Repeat for several minutes.

  • Alternate Nostril Breathing: Close your right nostril with your thumb and inhale deeply through your left nostril. Hold your breath, then close your left nostril with your ring finger and exhale through your right nostril. Inhale through your right nostril, hold, then close it and exhale through your left. Repeat for several cycles on each side.

Questions for Reflection

  • How can I incorporate more breathwork exercises into my daily routine?

  • In what areas of my life am I open to receiving abundance (not just money)?

  • Am I creating space in my life for new opportunities and financial blessings?
